Recent Work

Recent work at Acadia

Acadia Health Care

Acadia Behavioral Health Campus project in Berks County was a unique project. From the beginning of the job there were many challenges the 2 biggest were rock and unsuitable soils. We worked hand in hand w/ Warfel Construction to come up with the best solution to minimize the additional cost impact for the owner. After all the ideas were evaluated, the job started moving forward. The first major milestone was the construction of the ponds. The blasting crew we had in for the rock manned the job with 4 drills to get ahead of the earthwork.

The next major milestone was getting the foundation pad to grade. To achieve this, we had to remediate the soils w/ Portland cement up to within 5’ of pad subgrade & after that point the remainder of the fill had to be modified stone. For this task we set up a crushing operation and utilized the onsite rock to make the modified stone which saved the owner cost on not having to purchase quarry stone.

During the first couple months of the job while the earthwork and rock was taking place our pipe crew worked long days to stay ahead of the construction. Staging areas were built in designated areas to work best for the logistics of the construction so everything could keep moving forward with the least amount of hold up. During the construction of the site, curb & paving was installed in large sections to keep the workers mud free as possible.

The last large piece on this site that needed to be built was the extensive HOP work. After the approved plans were released, there was a couple challenges. Not only did we have to build the roadway in stages, but we had to do it while keeping 2 lanes of traffic flowing plus part of the improvement was adding a traffic circle. The key part to us maintaining a schedule with all the unknowns was communication and working with the GC to make sure all the necessary people were a part of the decisions.

In the end the job turned out well, the customer was happy and our relationship with Warfel grew stronger.
